Welcome to songwriter Vernam Cipher's home on the web,
a place to revel in the glorious variety of 20th Century music: rock ‘n’ roll, honky tonk, soul, pop, and more.

Thanks to all for the great turnout on July 17 at DuPage Inn.  Especially with the Downers festival in progress, it was really nice to see everybody at a new venue for us.  It's been a busy spring and summer in Cipherdom, with appearances at John's, Fitzgerald's, (sorry, no Kennedy's), the Downers Grove Moose Hall, Great American Bagel, and probably a couple that are slipping ol' Vernam's mind.  Thanks to all of you who have come out, and thanks to my friends and collaborators, including the Tonellis, young Connie Cipher, and Doug Morton

Check the calendar for info about upcoming gigs, including October 31 (Halloween hijinx!) at the Great American Bagel.

Be seeing you,

Vernam

Behold, a new tune called "Trifling Woman."  It was fun to write and record, although (or maybe "because") I have no experience comparable to what the lyrics describe. The arrangement is more of a sketch than a finished track, but hey, it's close enough for the web.  Here are the lyrics.

Take Me for a Little While -- Evie Sands
Sunday, 25 April 2010 21:28

Evie Sands got a raw deal when Chess Records rushed a version of this song to market a week ahead of hers.  Quite a performance here on Shindig.  Evie is still performing on the west coast and elsewhere.
