Three truckers drop into a diner on Christmas Eve. That's young Connie Cipher singing with dad.
No One Should Be Alone at Christmas
Two good buddies and me Tired and needing a place to eat Chased a star, wandered 'neath the sky Pulled up by a Texaco sign They were hoping to get some rest Me, I thought we oughta drive on Bought a pot of coffee and said "Bet we'd make it there by dawn 'Cause no one should be alone at Christmas and each of us has someone at home who'd miss us Instead of staying here in Pennsylvania on a night so clear Let's try to make it there by Christmas" I spied a girl, 'bout 17 sitting in a corner booth She was eating some saltines nursing a glass of water, too Seemed to be all by herself In not quite the best of health Looked so cold and hungry there We gathered what we three could spare As I approached, her body tensed I said, "Miss, don't take offense, here's something, it's not much" But I could see that she was touched With such kindness in her eyes Some hidden source of joy and pride Then I noticed at her side A baby lying bundled tight She said, "See, at least I'm not alone at Christmas I feel as if the precious lord has blessed us Mister, thanks to you tonight My girl will sleep warm and dry Thank God you came along this Christmas" Lord, I wish no one was alone at Christmas Though I know just how forlorn this wish is And deep inside I know Wishing never made it so Still, I hope you're not alone this Christmas My friends and me drove on that Christmas Eve
